Abstract

The advent of human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS) in the world has forced all of us to accept a paradigm shift from curing towards caring. This has led us to focus our interventions on caring for the physical as well as the psychological welfare of the HIV-positive individuals and his/her significant others. A descriptive survey was used to determine the knowledge awareness level of information services put in place for the prevention and care of HIV/AIDS for students of tertiary institutions in Osun State of Nigeria. The findings revealed that students of tertiary institutions in Osun State of Nigeria have high knowledge of the meaning of HIV/AIDS and they are aware that HIV/AIDS can be transmitted through sexual intercourse. This study also focuses on the practical work of librarians, information specialists, and health workers in caring for the physical as well as the psychological needs of the HIV-positive individuals and his/her significant others.
