Reflections on Rural Communities

Pages 165-169 | Published online: 19 Apr 2010

Abstract

Rural communities in the United States have characteristics that offer both challenges and opportunities for those wishing to improve health literacy. Librarians can build upon the assets in small towns to reach community members, to reduce health disparities, and to improve health and well-being. Librarians are encouraged to learn of services and partner with organizations in their communities that have a stake in improving health literacy and equip people to better manage their own health and wellness.
