Extreme Makeover (Hospital Edition): Designing Dual-Purpose Space

Abstract

A community teaching hospital library contributes to its hospital’s mission by sharing space with its emergency management department and its hospital command center. Both departments describe their needs and the process to design a dual-purpose space to the benefit of both hospital departments. The resultant command center provides state-of-the-art space, communications, and equipment that is available for both departments as well as the greater hospital.
