Abstract
As the protective gear is solely concerned with fault conditions and cannot readily be tested under normal system operating conditions, the testing of protective schemes has always been a problem. This situation has been aggravated in recent years by the complexity of protective schemes and relays. In this article, a new, but economical, relay test set to test over-current and under-current relays for engineering colleges and industries has been designed. A comparative evaluation of the results obtained from the proposed relay test set with the conventional standard relay test set is carried out. Experimental results of the proposed relay test set are also compared with the theoretical results obtained using a standard formula. This article should be of interest to many undergraduate and graduate academic institutions, as well as small-scale industries, as they have limited budget for purchasing equipment.
