Abstract

This paper proposes the design process of an electric motor for electric vehicle (EV). In this process, considering the technical specifications of an average car, the features of the electric motor are calculated. Then, by calculating the main parameters of the electric motor and choosing some dimensions, the initial values for the optimization of the motor are provided. Optimization is done with the help of genetic algorithm to reduce the torque ripple and increase the torque density of the motor. To reduce the torque ripple, the combination of three torque reduction methods is applied to the rotor. To reduce the iron loss of the machine, simulation is done using oriented ferromagnetic laminations. Finally, the optimization results and its effect on the motor parameters are presented along with the efficiency and losses map of the motor.
