Abstract
Wolves were protected under the Endangered Species Act from 1995, when they were reintroduced to the United States, until 2009. The law did not protect them from controversy. This study examines sources of online information about wolf management in the northern Rockies available between August 5, 2010, when wolves were relisted by a U.S. District Judge, and March 18, 2011, when a settlement on wolf recovery was reached. Findings indicate that rhetoric and data appear to be contradictory and highlight the ongoing controversy over how many wolves are enough to sustain their population.
