Managing with Style: An Analysis of Work Styles of Hotel Managers

, , &
Pages 190-209 | Published online: 21 Mar 2014

Abstract

This study investigated work styles (also referred to as personality types) of hotel managers (specifically, general managers, assistant general managers, and directors of sales). Research findings drawn from a convenient sample of a hotel management company in the Southeast United States (with an 82% response rate), suggest that there are significant differences among work styles associated with specific managerial positions. Such a finding may indicate that managerial positions may share few work style characteristics, with key differences suggesting implications for employment selection, professional development, and succession planning.
