Latino Immigrant Youth and Interrupted Schooling: Dropouts, Dreamers and Alternative Pathways to College

M. Lukes, Bristol, UK: Multilingual Matters, 2015, 224 pages, $39.95.

Pages 196-197 | Published online: 16 Mar 2017

Notes

1 Lukes differentiates between dropouts and school leavers to emphasize that experiences of immigrant youth have not been explored, and the term “dropouts” is not always applicable. School leavers, in this text, refer to foreign-born Latino/as who, after having interrupted their schooling, reenter school through second-chance programs to complete a high school GED.

2 Latino/a immigrant youth and young adults, as used in this text, refer to “young adults who arrive in the US without having completed a high school education in their home country” (p. 10) and are between the ages of 15 and 24.
