Abstract

This essay examines The Character of Justice: Rhetoric, Law and Politics in the Supreme Court Confirmation Process (2007) written by Trevor Parry-Giles, an award winner of the National Communication Association Diamond Book Award. This essay explains the historical, philosophical, and interpretive significance of the book for the engagement of political rhetoric. Additionally, Parry-Giles gives us insight into the actual doing of an interpretive project, which resulted in the prestigious NCA award.

Trevor Parry-Giles is an associate professor in the Department of Communication at the University of Maryland. He is also an affiliated scholar with the Center for American Politics & Citizenship, the Department of African-American Studies, and the Center for Political Communication & Civic Leadership
