Abstract

For a variety of reasons many Christian higher education institutions struggle to embrace issues of diversity. This paper explores some of the challenges facing Christian higher education institutions when it comes to embracing diversity, particularly in the area of employment. It begins with a discussion of basic diversity/diversity management principles including an examination of the historical context and the business case for embracing diversity. The paper further examines specific challenges of, and rationale for, managing and embracing diversity in a Christian university context. These issues are highlighted through a case study conducted on a Christian university campus The paper concludes with various recommendations for how to create or improve a Christian institution's employment diversity climate. The recommendations are presented in light not only of legal, community, and business pressures but also in an attempt to help the Christian campus to further fulfill its mission and ultimately bring God glory.
