Abstract

In this paper, the nonlocal Reddy beam model is employed to study the vibration characteristics of armchair and zigzag single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) subjected to a uniform temperature rise. The equivalent Young's modulus and shear modulus for armchair and zigzag SWCNT are derived using an energy-equivalent model. Results indicate significant dependence of natural frequencies on the temperature change as well as the chirality of armchair and zigzag carbon nanotube. In addition, the frequencies of armchair and zigzag SWCNTs with different indices of translation of the chiral vector are compared.
