Synthesis of Silver Nanoparticles by the Action of Heavy Ozonized C60 Fullerene on Silver Nitrate Solutions

Pages 523-529 | Received 11 Mar 2014, Accepted 25 Mar 2014, Published online: 11 Sep 2014

Abstract

Heavy ozonated C60 fullerene, known also as “fullerene ozopolymer” is able to reduce silver ions to silver nanoparticles. The silver ions reduction was followed spectrophotometrically through the development of the surface plasmon resonance absorption band at 420 nm which is typical of the colloidal suspension of silver nanoparticles. The kinetic rate constant of silver ions reduction was determined. Fullerene ozopolymer acts as a reducing agent and as silver colloid protecting agent as demonstrated by the value of Z-potential which suggests the formation of a thermodynamically stable colloidal suspension.
