1For simplicity, I shall talk about exams in this commentary but everything I say remains unaltered if the word tests is substituted for exams.

2There is an interesting technical issue here about the direction of the regression analyses which should be used in each case (or, indeed, whether a structural regression would be more appropriate than either predictive one) but I take it that these are the interpretations which Paul seeks, given his examples.
