Questioning the Consensus Definition of Validity

Pages 110-122 | Published online: 29 May 2012

Notes

1 CitationBorsboom et al. (2009) identified this dilemma, taking it to be a fundamental flaw of the construct validity model. As the focus article explained, this is not a problem just as long as validity is defined with sufficient clarity.

2Incidentally, in response to a comment from Markus, I use the term entail only because it is used explicitly in the consensus definition of validity (see American Educational Research Association et al., 1999, p. 9). I interpret it to mean require, that is, the interpretation required by the intended use of results.
