Statement of retraction: Equitable access to information in libraries: A predicament for transgender people

This article refers to:
RETRACTED ARTICLE: Equitable access to information in libraries: A predicament for transgender people

We, the Editor and Publisher have retracted the following article:

Brandon Lyttan & Bikika Laloo (2020) Equitable access to information in libraries: A predicament for transgender people, Journal of Access Services, 17:1, 46–64, doi:10.1080/15367967.2019.1671850

Since publication, concerns have been raised about several direct quotes in the article that appear to have been significantly altered, without indication to readers that they have been altered. The article also includes two direct quotes that have been misrepresented. These altered and misrepresented quotes are stated to be from the following two sources:

Walker, J., & Bates, J. (2016). Developments in LGBTQ provision in secondary school library services since the abolition of Section 28. Journal of Librarianship and Information Science, 48(3), 269–283. doi:10.1177/0961000614566340

Curry, A. (2005). If I ask, will they answer? Evaluating public library reference service to gay and lesbian youth. Reference & User Services Quarterly, 45(1), 65–75. http://www.jstor.org/stable/20864443

Upon query, the author has not been able to provide an explanation for the alteration and fabrication of quotes. As we no longer have confidence in the reliability of the article due to this misrepresentation, the Editor and Publisher are retracting the article from the journal. The authors have accepted this retraction.

We have been informed in our decision-making by our editorial policies and COPE guidelines. The retracted article will remain online to maintain the scholarly record, but it will be digitally watermarked on each page as “Retracted.”
