The father's role in behavioral parent training: A review

Pages 274-279 | Published online: 20 Oct 2009

Abstract

Research in parent training has focused primarily on training mothers. This review examines both direct and indirect evidence for the importance of examining the effect of the father on parent training outcome. Studies focusing on the function of marital variables on parent training outcome, the father's ability to learn behavioral techniques, and the necessity of including the father in parent training programs are reviewed. Methodological weaknesses are presented, with suggestions for further research into this area.
