Abstract

A new method has been developed to determine the interfacial fracture energy and friction between carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and polymer matrix. A polymer stripe with a chevron contact pattern was imprinted on a substrate with protruded CNT array. Maximum applied load was measured during the peeling of the stripe. An analytical formula for calculation of interfacial fracture energy was derived and verified with finite element analysis. Based on the peeling experiment and theoretical analysis, the interfacial friction was determined to be 29–44 MPa, which is consistent with the results measured by other methods.
