Abstract
Effects of uniform rotation on propagating plane waves in a thermo-viscoelastic material with voids are explored. Five distinct modes are found to propagate in the considered rotating medium. Only in some specific directions relative to the axis of rotation, these modes may behave like pure dilatational or pure shear waves. Considering copper as a rotating thermo-viscoelastic material with voids, phase speeds and corresponding attenuations of all the existing pure modes are computed numerically and depicted graphically. Several well-known results are reduced as particular cases from the present formulation. Some facts regarding the directions of the pure modes are pointed out.
