Geography and international relations theorizing: their implications for China

Pages 363-385 | Received 24 Jun 2013, Accepted 21 Oct 2013, Published online: 04 Dec 2013

Abstract

Factors relating to geography have figured prominently in the works of various international relations theorists, and students of international relations have been increasingly drawn to analyzing the likely consequences of China’s recent rise for the future peace and prosperity of East Asia and beyond. This essay has two objectives: it presents and explains those geographic variables with an important role in international relations theories, and it draws out the implications of these general formulations for the specific case of China.
