Pinning Down Consumer Health Information: An Alternative to Large Social Bookmarking Sites

Pages 234-244 | Published online: 29 May 2012

Abstract

The accidental leak of the news that Yahoo! was considering retiring the popular social bookmarking site Delicious prompted a careful review of a smaller bookmarking site Pinboard as an alternative. Considerations include the potential effect a smaller community of users has on discovering consumer health information, the role librarians and tagging play in promoting health literacy, and the impact of fees on bookmarking services and user expectations.
