Abstract
Nutrition literacy is a subset of health literacy that helps patients understand which foods are best for their specific health profile. Cookbooks are collections of recipes that teach people how to cook. Through their brightly colored illustrations and easy to read language, cookbooks help patients with low nutrition literacy by both engaging their interest in food and increasing their nutritional education. Cookbooks are essential patient education resources, and healthcare professionals should be aware of the value cookbooks have in increasing patient education. This article explains the importance of nutrition literacy and explores how cookbooks are essential components to create a more robust health information experience for patients and libraries.
