ABSTRACT

Due to the complexity of humans, there is often more to us than is seen at first glance. The authors of this study aimed to collect information on perceived identity through the use of the iceberg metaphor. Data was collected using posters of an iceberg with instructions for participants to write what people can see about them on the top of the poster and what people cannot see on the bottom. Posters were placed in various high-traffic public areas for a period of two weeks. A total of 66 responses were written on the top portion of the posters and 67 on the bottom. Responses were qualitatively analyzed. Results are discussed in light of relevant literature and through a social justice perspective.
