ABSTRACT

Oral assessment approaches help students integrate cognitive and didactic information with application to clinical scenarios. Oral assessment refers to the systematic verbal monitoring and evaluation of critical thinking and application-based clinical skills. This article reviews oral assessment methods, offers a blueprint for implementation in pre-practicum experiences in counselor education, and examines implications for practice and research.
