Abstract
Two nitroalkene compounds, namely trans-2-(2-methoxyphenyl)-1-nitroethylene (1) and trans-1-hydroxymethyl-2-(2-methoxyphenyl)-1-nitroethylene dichloromethane hemisolvate (2), have been synthesized and structurally characterized by elemental analysis, 1H (13C) NMR spectra, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The nitroethylene molecules in (1) and (2) adopt a trans configuration about the C˭C double bonds. The crystal structures of (1) and (2) are stabilized by the C‒H···O short contacts, and particularly for (2) intermolecular O–H···O hydrogen bonds are also observed.
