The New Deal and the Post-2015 Development Agenda

Pages 87-95 | Published online: 28 Mar 2013

Notes

1 The ‘New Deal’ for engagement in fragile states was proposed at the International Dialogue on Peacebuilding and Statebuilding in December 2011where the g7+group of countries, along with development partners, civil society, international organisations and partner countries, came together to consider impediments to development and to identify and remedy issues hampering the effectiveness of development assistance. The New Deal was presented to the fourth High-level Forum on Aid Effectiveness in Busan in December 2012, leading to its endorsement by over 40 countries and international organisations. Implementation of the New Deal is under way in pilot programmes in many of the 17 g7+countries. It is a part of a broader and growing agenda for the g7+members, helping them through reforms in the areas of mutual concern, and goes directly to the issues of MDG attainment and development assistance.
