BRIEFING

Civilian Strategy Across Southeast Asia

Pages 98-103 | Published online: 27 Nov 2017

Notes

1 Fieldwork was primarily carried out between 2006 and 2010, along with follow-up visits in 2011, 2015, and 2016. Between 2006 and 2010, I conducted semi-structured, rural interviews with nearly 200 civilians in Aceh, along with about 100 in Mindanao and Patani.

2 These strategies are modified from Albert Hirschman’s classic schema: exit, voice, and loyalty, explored more in Barter (Citation2012, Citation2014).
