1 Youth is defined as those under the age of 35 years. The youth in The Gambia make up 65% of the population.

2 Currently there are only direct flights from London, Belgium, Dakar, Ghana and Nairobi to The Gambia. Many tour companies offer chartered flights as part of packages.

LESLEY CONNOLLY is a Policy Analyst with the International Peace Institute focusing on the issue of Sustaining Peace and Peacebuilding in Africa. Previously she was based in South Africa at the African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (ACCORD) as the Senior Program Officer in the Peacebuilding Unit. Lesley has an MA in International Relations from New York University (NYU) and an MPhil in Social Justice from the University of Cape Town (UCT).
