Evidence-Based (Informed) Macro Practice Paradigm: Integration of Practice Expertise and Research

Pages 407-421 | Published online: 11 Oct 2008

ABSTRACT

This article addresses some of the challenges and opportunities inherent in the empirical practice movement. In constructing an evidence-based macro practice paradigm, practitioners, educators, and their researcher colleagues will need to work together in critically examining the amount, type, and quality of the evidence that support major theories, policies, and interventions relevant to practice. Integrating relevant scientific information with professional judgment should be the guiding principle in supporting evidence-based practice. Even though the logic of EBP is appealing to funding sources, professionals, and the public, many issues need to be examined in transporting an evidence-based practice into a practice setting.
