Tensile Behavior of the Knots for Spun Yarns of Different Flax Types

&
Pages 682-690 | Published online: 06 Oct 2016

ABSTRACT

In this paper, the spun yarn specimens of two types of flax fibers, i.e. flax tow fiber and hackled line flax, were used for statistical study on main trends of tensile behavior of knotted spun yarns. The tensile characteristics, such as breaking force, tenacity, elongation at break, work of break, and specific work of break of knotted yarns, were compared with those of original yarns. The above-mentioned indices were studied for four types of textile knots, i.e. the square, the overhand, the weaver’s, and the fisherman’s knots. Several aspects of tensile behavior as stress concentration, hastened breakage, knot slippage, and others were applied in the discussion.
