Abstract

This article offers a response to the preceding Supervisory Roundtable Panel Discussion from a relational perspective. While outlining a relational approach to the supervisory process, it addresses ruptures in the supervisory relationship, the intricacies of the teach/treat boundary, and the use of the supervisor’s self in the supervisory setting.

Mary Gail Frawley-O’Dea

Mary Gail Frawley-O’Dea, PhD, is Director of Counseling of Presbyterian Psychological Services in Charlotte, North Carolina. She is a graduate of the postdoctoral analytic training program at the Derner Institute, Adelphi University, where she also served as faculty and supervisor in both the doctoral and postdoctoral programs. Dr. Frawley-O’Dea was also faculty and supervisor in the NIP psychoanalytic and supervisory training programs. She is coauthor of The Supervisory Relationship: A Contemporary Psychodynamic Perspective.
