Editor’s note

This FCS special issue “Edible Feminisms: On Commodities, Wastes and (Un)intended Consequences” is the result of the immense effort and expertise of guest editors Rachel Vaughn and Sarah E. Tracy. Their introduction provides a thorough, engaging discussion and overview of the issue’s articles.

It is with pleasure but also wistfulness that I write this final Editor’s Note. During my six-year tenure as editor the journal has continued to evolve in positive directions. We changed publishers (twice!), worked to update the cover, formatting, and overall look and feel, and increased the number of issues from four to five per year. We also moved to an online submission and management system, accelerated the publication timeline, instigated online publishing, and have benefited from Taylor & Francis’s vast resources and networks of scholarly academic publishing. While moving to a twenty-first century publishing platform has its drawbacks, the gains surely outweigh the losses. Since 2013 the annual number of manuscript submissions has doubled – the result of increased interest in food studies combined with T&F’s global reach. The future of academic publishing feels unsteady, as does all publishing, but as we move forward Food, Culture, and Society is undoubtedly a (if not the) leading journal of food studies scholarship.

I am so happy to pass along the Editor’s torch to Megan Elias of Boston University. She and her team will I know continue to innovate and foster exceptional food studies scholarship. As always, the usual round of thanks are in order, though this last time with extra special emphasis. Many, many thanks to Assistant Managing Editor Katherine Magruder, Book Reviews Editor John Lang, Education Editor Jon Deutsch, T&F editors Alison Daniels and George Cooper, as well as T&F copy editors. Also thank you Advisory Board members who gallantly reviewed manuscripts and attended board meetings, and all members of the Association for the Study of Food and Society (ASFS) whose annual dues make the publication of this journal possible.
