A novel tetradentate oxime chelating ligand, 3,3′‐Dihydroxy‐2,2′‐[Ethylenedioxybis(nitrilomethyli‐dyne)]diphenol (H4L), and its mononuclear copper(II) complex [Cu(H2L)] · 2H2O have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, UV‐vis and 1H‐NMR etc. The X‐ray crystallography of complex [Cu(H2L)] · 2H2O indicates that the asymmetric unit consists of discrete [Cu(H2L)] and two crystallizing waters. The four atoms of the donor set (N1, N2, O1, O2) in the N2O2 coordination sphere and Cu1 approximately lie in a plane. The dihedral angle between the coordination plane of N(1)‐Cu(1)‐O(1) and that of N(2)‐Cu(1)‐O(2) is 16.6(8)°, indicating that the coordination environment is only slight distortion toward tetrahedral geometry from the square planar structure. The approximately hexagonal nanotube (10.412×4.989 Å) formed by the intermolecular hydrogen bonds in the central of the dimer were observed along the crystallographic b axis.
