This is a review of the use of liquid ammonia as a solvent for chemical processes. Among the subjects covered are the physical properties of the solvent that defines it as “water like.” The physical and chemical processes associated with the formation of solutions and the properties of those solutions are also convered. Included is a discussion of metal‐ammonia solutions, the nature of the species present; and the characteristic reactions of those solutions. There are 345 references to assist readers with additional details on these varied subjects.
