Dimeric complexes of the type [MC12(fau)]2 (where M=Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II) or Zn(II) and fau=1‐furanyl 2,4‐ diaza‐1,3‐butanedione) have been synthesized. The ligand, fau, was also synthesized by the reaction of furanoyl chloride with urea. Molecular weight data, magnetic, conductivity measurements, elemental analysis, vibration, electronic, 1H and 13C NMR spectra suggested octhedral geometries for all the complexes. The complexes were found to be dimeric and non‐ionic in methanol. Data also revealed evidence of metal‐metal bond. The ligand coordinates through 3 oxygen atoms. Zinc complex was found to be diamagnetic. The complexes were screened against four fungi and five bacteria in vitro and were found to be potentially active biocidals in the concentration range of 3.8–4.6 mg mL.−1
