The carbon nanomaterial synthesized from pongamia glabra (Karanjal) oil, pyrolysed at temperature 800°C to 900°C to obtain the thin film of carbon nanomaterials on ceramic substrates. An electromagnetic wave absorption study of thin film of CNM was done. It is observed that carbon nanofibers from pongamia glabra possessed good microwave absorbing properties in the frequency range 8–12 GHz. Maximum absorption (90–95%) was observed in the 8.60 GHz to 10.20 GHz range with a reflection coefficient of −27.42 dB to −36.90 dB.

The authors are grateful to Prof.T.Soga & Mr.Rakesh Afre of Nagoya Institute of Technology, Japan for helping and providing SEM micrographs of our samples and UGC for providing a financial support. Thanks are due to Dr. Naresh Chandra, Birla College, Kalyan and my colleagues of the Nanotech Research Lab for providing the necessary support.
