A novel metal diphosphonate complex [Co3(H2aedp)2 (Haedp)2(H2O)4 · 2H2O]n (1) [H2aedp−=CH3C(NH3)(PO3H)2, Haedp2−=CH3C(NH3)(PO3)(PO3H)] has been hydrothermally synthesized and structurally characterized. Crystal data: 1, monoclinic, space group C2/c, a=27.875(6) Å, b=7.1417(14) Å, c=19.913(4) Å, β=118.43(3)°, Z=4. Complex 1 exhibits a 2‐dimensional layer structure with stair‐like configuration. Magnetic properties of the compound have been investigated. It shows typical antiferromagnetic behaviors.
