[CuLCl], a copper(II) complex derived from weak nucleophilic addition of complex [CuL′Cl], which was synthesized by Schiff base condensation of N,N‐dimethylbiguanide with 2‐pyridinecarbaldehyde in the presence of Cu(ClO4)2 · 6H2O, has been synthesized and characterized by single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction. Cu(1) locates in a N3Cl coordination environment and possesses a slightly distorted square planar configuration. Antimicrobial activity study found that the complex was active against Staphylococcus aureus CMCC (B) 26 003, Bacillus pumilus CMCC (B) 63 202, Salmonella CMCC (B) 50 094 and Eschierichia Coli CMCC (B) 44 102, but the activity was somewhat weaker than [CuL′Cl].
