A pair of structurally similar mononuclear Schiff base nickel(II) complexes, [NiL1]4 · 4H2O (1) and [NiL2] · CH3OH (2) (H2L1=N,N′‐bis(2‐hydroxynaphthylmethenylimino)‐1,2‐cyclohexyldiamine, H2L2=N,N′‐bis(salicylidene)‐1,2‐cyclohexyldiamine), have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectra and single crystal X‐ray diffraction. The Ni atom in each of the complexes is 4‐coordinated in a square planar configuration by 2 O and 2 N atoms from the Schiff base ligand. The similar Schiff base ligands with the nickel acetate can result in the similar structures of the aggregates.
