Abstract

Two mononuclear Schiff base copper(II) and nickel(II) complexes, [CuL 2 ]·2NCS (1) and [NiL 2 (NCS)2] (2) (L = 2-ethoxy-6-[(2-isopropylaminoethylimino)methyl]phenol), have been obtained from the similar synthetic procedures and the Schiff base ligand, but with different metal salts. The complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, IR and single crystal X-ray diffraction. There exists crystallographic imposed center of inversion in each of the complexes. The copper(II) atom in (1) is four-coordinated in a square-planar geometry by two phenolate O and two imine N atoms from two Schiff base ligands, with the thiocyanate groups acting as counteranions. The nickel(II) aotm in (2) is six-coordinated in an octahedral geometry by two phenolate O and two imine N atoms from two Schiff base ligands, and by two N atoms from two thiocyanate ligands.
