Abstract

Through the microwave-assisted solvothermal reaction of Ni(ClO4)2·6H2O with 5-bromo-2-hydroxy-3-methoxy-benzaldehyde (Hbhmb) and 25% ammonia, a new nickel(II) compound, (I) [Ni(bimp)2)]·2(H2O), C16H18Br2N2NiO6 [where Hbimp = 4-bromo-2-iminomethyl-6-methoxy-phenol], was prepared and its crystal structure was determined by single-crystal x-ray diffraction analysis and further characterized by elemental analysis, infrared (IR) spectroscopy, and thermogravimetry/differential thermal gravimetry (TG-DTG) analysis. The centrosymmetric molecule comprises nickel(II) atoms connected by two bimp ligands in bidentate mode. Complex 1 formed a two-dimensional (2-D) network through O–H···O and C–H···Br hydrogen bonds, which further constructed a three-dimensaionl (3-D) network through O–H···O hydrogen bonds that formed a diverting one-dimensional (1-D) water chain.
