Synthesis, Crystal Structure, and Properties of a Tetranuclear Zn(II) Complex Based on 2-(1H-imidazole-1-ylmethyl)-1H-benzimidazole

Abstract

A new complex with the formula {[Zn(L)3](NO3)·H2O}4 (1) has been obtained through the self-assembly of a flexible N-heterocyclic ligand 2-(1H-imidazole-1-ylmethyl)-1H-benzimidazole (L) with Zn(NO3)2·6H2O at 80 °C. In complex 1, four adjacent Zn(II) ions are joined together by four bidentate bridging ligands in trans-conformation to form a tetranuclear unit, featuring a (Zn–N–N–)4 ring on the ab plane. The Zn4L12 units are interconnected by classical hydrogen-bonding interactions (N–H···N) to lead to 1D channels in the c-direction. Additionally, the fluorescent property and thermogravimetric analysis of complex 1 also have been investigated.
