Abstract
A three-dimensional coordination polymer, formulated as {[Cd(μ-C4H4O6)(H2O)3] ·2H2O}∞ (1), has been synthesized and characterized by elemental and thermal analysis, IR spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction studies. 1 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group, P21. The structure is self-assembled from polydentate tartrate and water molecules. Polymeric chains of 1 are composed of Cd(II) ions bridged by tartrate ions in a O,O’ fashion. The tartrate ion in 1 contributes to both covalent and hydrogen bonds. A wide range of hydrogen bonds is also present in the crystal structure. This arrangement leads to the formation of a 3D supramolecular structure.
