Abstract
Two novel coordination polymers based on 5-iodo-isophthalic acid (5-iipa) and ancillary nitrogen ligand 1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)athene (bpa), namely [Zn2(5-iipa)2(bpa)3]n (1) and [Cd (5-iipa)(bpa)(CH3OH)]n (2), have been obtained and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analyses and thermal analyses. Compound 1 crystallizes in triclinic, space group Pī with a = 10.642(2) Å, b = 13.693(3) Å, c = 18.233(4) Å, α = 81.69(3)°, β = 82.61(3)°, γ = 76.50(3)°, and features an interesting three-fold parallel interpenetrated two-dimensional (2D)→three-dimensional (3D) network motifs. Compound 2 crystallizes in triclinic, space group Pī with a = 7.7951(16) Å, b = 9.7463(19) Å, c = 12.128(2) Å, α = 97.41(3)°, β = 97.53(3)°, γ = 110.51(3)°. In 2, one-dimensional chains are linked by bpa ligands to give a 2D network, and such adjacent layers are united together to yield a 3D supramolecular structure through inter-layer π···π and weak O···I interaction.
