Synthesis, Crystal Structure, and Cytotoxic Property of Zinc(II) Complex Derived From N,N'-bis(5-fluorosalicylidene)-1,2-diaminoethane

Abstract

The synthesis and crystal structure of a new mononuclear zinc(II) complex derived from N,N'-bis(5-fluorosalicylidene)-1,2-diaminoethane (H2L) are described. The infrared spectrum and thermal analysis of the complex are also discussed. X-ray diffraction indicates that the Zn atom is coordinated by two nitrogen and two oxygen atoms of the Schiff base ligand, and by one methanolic oxygen atom, to form square pyramidal coordination geometry. In the crystal, the molecules are linked through intermolecular hydrogen bonds of types O–H···O and C–H···Cl, to form 2D layers parallel to the ab plane. In vitro study shows that the complex is cytotoxic against some human fungal and bacterial pathogens.
