ABSTRACT

Reaction between 4′-phenyl-terpyridine (L) and a Zn (II) salt (zinc sulfate heptahydrate) led to the formation of the complex {[Zn(μ2-O2SO2)L]·3H2O}n (1), which was obtained by hydrothermal synthesis. Its structure was characterized by elemental analysis, and IR and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In 1, the Zn atom is envisaged as possessing distorted N3O2 irregular trigonal bipyramidal coordination geometries. The compound shows interesting photoluminescent properties in solid state, which are reported along with their TG-DTA thermal decomposition processes.
