Abstract
Transition metal complexes with salicylidene-3-imino-3-(o-formyl) phenoxy propionic acid hydrazide (HSIFPH) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses and different physical techniques. The ligand behaves as a neutral monodentate or bidentate and/or a charged mononegative tridentate molecule, depending on the metal ion used for complex formation. The Ni(II) ions form tetrahedral and octahedral complexes, while the Co(II) forms octahedral stereochemistry. The structure of Cu(II) complex has been proposed to be distortea tetrahedral on the basis of magnetic and electronic spectral data. The electrical conductivities of HSIFPH and of its Co(II), Ni(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) complexes have been measured at different temperatures. The negative value of dö/dT corresponds to metallic character. The linearity of I-V characteristic also provides an evidence for ohmic contact.
