Abstract
ORGASM INC.: The Strange Science of Female Pleasure is a feature length investigative documentary on the pharmaceutical industry and women's health created by Liz Canner. The film focuses on Vivus, Inc., a company working on a Viagra-like drug for women. Vivus hired Canner to edit erotic videos for use in clinical trials of their new drug. Women participating in the clinical trial were then asked to view the films, their reactions were monitored, and the data were collected for eventual submission to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). In the film, female cosmetic genital surgery and surgically-implanted devices that are intended to stimulate orgasm are also examined. Orgasm Inc. is a funny and provocative, but sobering, new documentary about the science of female pleasure.
