Pages 187-197 | Published online: 12 Sep 2012

Abstract

Although multicultural education scholars and the National Association for Multicultural Education (NAME) have encouraged the implementation of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender themes in the classroom (NAME, Citation2005), many classroom educators look the other way because of fear, retaliation, or personal discomfort.
