Group Approaches to Specific Co-Occurring Disorders

Group Therapy for Dissociative Disorders and Addiction

Pages 323-346 | Received 04 Jan 2008, Accepted 25 Jul 2008, Published online: 12 Dec 2008

ABSTRACT

Chronic, complex dissociative disorders are almost always accompanied by extensive comorbidity, including a range of different addictions. These can be treated within a multimodal treatment approach that includes group therapy. The author describes the principles and techniques of group therapy with this population based on 16 years of experience in a hospital-based trauma program. Vignettes of composite therapeutic conversations are included in the description of trauma model therapy.
