RESEARCH

A Mexican American Perspective: The Relationship Between Self-Esteem and Family Functioning

Pages 86-92 | Published online: 20 Nov 2018

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between self-esteem and perceptions of family-of-origin among persons of Mexican descent. The results demonstrated highly significant, though relatively low, correlations between self-esteem and positive family affect, family communication, family conflict, family worries and anxieties, and family rituals. Implications of these findings for counselors are discussed.
